We need your input!
HR Kinections needs your input! We are planning a series of workshops/discussions/brown bags around Human Resource topics. We are soliciting feedback on topics that you would be interested in. Some ideas are: hiring, what to do once you have hired, performance reviews, handling conflict, terminations, discipline process, growing your business, healthcare reform, workers comp, resume writing, going back to work, compensation, etc. Please leave us a comment with your great ideas! We just want ideas - this in no way means that you are signing up to attend anything. Thanks!

Why even do performance reviews?
As a busy business owner myself, I understand the challenge of doing effective performance reviews. I don't have the time, my employees already know how they are doing, I just don't see the value....all common excuses for not doing performance reviews in a consistent manner. The problem is, is that in many cases, we don't realize that for most businesses, roughly 80% of their assets are in their 'people' assets. We seem to find the time to look at all other areas of our business to ensure that we are getting the most bang for our buck, but we all to often overlook the 'people' assets.
In a study of over 200 organizations in 22 industries (over an 11 year span) that looked at organizations that 'lived' a performance management culure and those that did not, the results were alarming. The revenue growth for organizations with performance enhancing culture was 682%; for those without, these organizations grew by 166%. While you may be happy with 166% growth, the net income growth (the bottom line) of the performance enhancing organizations grew by 756% while their counterparts grew by a measly 1%!
Whether your organization is big or small, utlizing a performance management system can significantly impact your bottom line. This does not have to be a huge undertaking, but there has to be a desire to move your business forward and commit to analyzing your 'people' assets with the same diligence as your other investments.
Having a system in place serves many other purposes, like clarifying those ready for promotion, identifying training needs, serving as a documentation trail, and many more. Of course, implementing a system has its challenges too! It requires careful planning, training, and follow through.
If you are interested in energizing your performance management system, need some ideas on formats of review forms, or how to conduct review meetings, contact me!

Happy New Year
Now that the house is back in order, I started in on getting the business in order!
At HR Kinections, we are firm believers in the power of a plan. Our FAMOuS Training program is all about achieving results by setting goals to manage, grow and develop your business, while ensuring that your team (the term 'team' is used loosely - as you may be the sole team member or you may have a 100 member team) is headed in the same direction.
So, I dusted of my 2010 Quarter 4 plan (not that it was very dusty) and started to work organizing my first plan for the New Year! After just a couple hours, I am feeling so ready for the new year. I have my plans in place AND the ability to track my achievements so that I can make adjustments as things evolve. To keep me accountable - one of my plans is to blog on a weekly basis! Be on the look out for HR Tips and other great information.
If you are feeling overwhelmed by all that you want to do with your business - you are with good company! If you would like to learn how FAMOuS can help, give me a call or visit our website for more info.

Why provide a Total Compensation Statement
Do you know what the total cost of having an employee really is? A total compensation statement is a valuable tool in helping to answer that question. It paints a full picture of the benefits employees receive while working at your company. It shows them all of the benefits they receive - including the ones they typically don't consider when thinking of their 'pay'. A compensation statement is sometimes referred to as the 'hidden paycheck' and often includes company paid benefits such as medical, dental, life and vision insurances, retirement benefits, vacation, sick, paid-time off, social security and medicare taxes paid by the company. If your comany offers other benefits such as education reimburesment, flexible spending accounts, uniforms, other discounts or benefits, those should be included as well.
This statement can be a great tool for employees to use in planning for their future. HR Kinections has samples available and is able to provide statements for your employees. For more information about the process, please contact us!

Introduction
A blog for human resources. A concept we are tinkering with. At HR Kinections we are passionate about helping companies expand their capacity to grow and thrive, by managing the human resource side of the business. We do this by working with our clients, both onsite and offsite, to create a relationship built upon trust and mutual respect.
Our services are flexible.
Need on site HR? In some cases we have a dedicated HR Professional at your facility 40+ hours per week. In other instances, we provide as little as 2 hours of HR service per week.
Need HR help on occasion? We have clients that simply use our hiring services to fulfill their hiring needs. We have clients that use our facilitator services to facilitate their meetings. We also offer 'On-call' HR, enabling our clients to call or email us with their HR needs.
Enough about us! We want to know what boggles you about Human Resources. Please send your HR questions / thoughts to HRAnswer@hrkinections.com and we will do our best to incorporate into our next blog.
Our hope is to use this forum to share HR news, developments, and product information. More importantly, we want to provide an avenue for a Q&A to share with the greater community. Check back with us to see what our blog becomes!
